Educational Philosophy Statement:
Project-based Learning & Collaboration
I believe that the skills and practices set forth in the AASL standards are essential for the future success of students whether they are headed to college or directly to careers. I feel that project-based learning provides excellent opportunities for students to learn and practice the kind of technology skills they’ll need for 21st century living. Project-based lessons support authentic learning to prepare students for college and careers ahead. Therefore, I think it is essential to use flexible scheduling for the library media center where time can be devoted to creating the kind of highly-engaging lessons that motivate students to excel.
Reading Enrichment
Reading enrichment is at the heart of my philosophy. It's been stated that reading is a "window to the world" -- it is the foundational skill upon which all student achievement is built (AASL, 2009). I believe it is my responsibility to provide a variety of creative, unique programs to promote reading improvement and reading enjoyment. Among all members of the learning community, it’s my responsibility to protect students’ rights to intellectual freedom and privacy and support adherence to current copyright laws (ALA, 2012). By balancing support for curricular objectives with ongoing collection development policy, I will be responsible for ensuring that all students have access to high-quality, current and age-appropriate literature to encourage reading for learning as well as for personal enjoyment and growth.

Current Resume
Differentiated Instruction
As a member of The American Association of School Librarians, my education philosophy aligns with current standards set forth in the AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner, skills and practices which are essential for the future success of students. I support the use multiple teaching strategies that differentiate instruction for the diverse needs of the student population; by following the principles of the Universal Design for Learning which provides for multiple modes of access and multiple modes of expression, we can create a more inclusive and accessible environment for all users. This improves student learning and bridge gaps in equitable access.
